Maximizing Efficiency and Minimizing Waste: Reducing Environmental Impact in Cold Chain Logistics

In today’s world, where our environment is facing significant problems, it’s crucial to act swiftly to prevent future crises caused by pollution and damage to nature. At SkyCell, we understand the seriousness of this situation, and we’re dedicated to taking prompt and well-thought-out actions in response.

Our main mission revolves around creating solutions that work exceptionally well while also being gentle on the planet. Take a closer look below at what we’re doing to get a better understanding of just how committed we are to making a positive impact.

SkyCell hybrid containers – a cleaner route for cold chain logistics

There are many ways in which we can reduce cold chain logistics’ impact on the environment: from introducing new technologies to optimizing what we already have. At SkyCell, we’re always pushing the boundaries and setting new benchmarks for the industry.

  • Reusability – One common challenge with conventional containers is the intricate and expensive nature of repairs. This inevitably leads to the production of more waste. To counter this, we meticulously design our containers to be easily repairable. The construction techniques of the hybrid containers are tailored to facilitate uncomplicated repairs, thus mitigating waste generation.
  • Optimizing Weight, Volume, and Size – Fossil fuel consumption significantly contributes to air pollution. Addressing this concern, we meticulously engineer lightweight containers that boast impressive capacity relative to their dimensions. A prime illustration of this approach is our 1500X hybrid container, which is fully optimized for space. By reducing weight and increasing payload space, we inherently decrease aircraft fuel consumption and the requisite number of flights.
  • Monitoring – While getting containers from one place to another is important, what’s inside those shipments matters the most. If something goes wrong with medicines or vaccines, pharma companies might have to throw them away. This creates even more harmful waste. That’s why at SkyCell we work hard to find a solution to prevent these problems.

One way we do this is by using smart devices called IoT devices. These devices include sensors that give customers access to a high-level overview of shipment data and start actioning rejections and deviations in a timely manner. This smart solution called SkyMind is what we use to keep things safe during transportation.

Reducing Environmental Impact in Cold Chain Logistics

Joining the Air France KLM Martinair Cargo sustainable aviation fuel program

We acknowledge that transformative change requires collective effort. This is why we joined forces with Air France, Martinair and KLM. Together, we aim to make air transportation sustainable and reduce the carbon footprint of aviation to 0.

Central to our alliance is the advocacy of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). We lead by example with a substantial portion of our transport operations executed via aircraft powered by SAF. This conscious choice exemplifies our commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship.

The takeaway

We don’t know how much time is left before what people do seriously harms the natural world in a way that can’t be fixed. Because of this urgency, SkyCell is taking strong action right now. If you care about helping the environment like we do, look for ways to stop making pollution in your own company. And if you need the latest containers that are good for the Earth, choose SkyCell. We promise to keep working really hard to reduce pollution and keep our world safe.
